Worrying and other fruitless pastimes

By Lynette Sowell

Sometimes flying is the lesser of two evils. This is my belief, after making plenty of trips for business and pleasure. You have to arrive early to hurry up and wait, and then you’re at the mercy of someone else’s schedule. I knew I had the potential for trouble during a research trip last winter. I had only a 45-minute layover on the way home. It’s not impossible to navigate DFW with less than an hour layover, but if my return flight from Tampa was delayed, I knew that might be a future problem. So worries started playing in my mind. I managed to quiet them for the next four days. And then, just like I’d worried, I received The Call from the airline on Monday afternoon: Instead of leaving at 4:55, my Tampa flight was set to leave at 5:15.
