True friends of the library

By Lynette Sowell

From the time I was a child who was learning to love learning, who fell in love with the heroes and heroines in books, the library was a magical place. It was a librarian who, when I was in fourth grade, encouraged me to enter a county film festival with my original story, and I won. It was my high school library where I took refuge during study hall and lunch time, when I was the new kid in a very large high school and felt lost. In the library among the books, I was at home. Libraries continue to be places of learning, of discovery. But our local library has seen cutback after cutback, without an end in sight.
