Oh, deer!

By Lynette Sowell

“Would you look at that?” my brother-in-law asked from the backseat ofthe car. We glided  to a stop and peered into the dusk as a small herd of deer grazed. One of the watchful adults snapped its head in our direction and stared. My sister held her video camera up and zoomed in. “Look at the fawn,” she whispered. The deer decided they’d had enough of that sample of someone’s lawn and trotted across the road in front of us, their hooves clicking on the pavement. Then the herd bounded over a fence, one by one. No, we weren’t in a game park. We were up in the foothills of town, taking my out-of-town family to view some of the local wildlife, in town.
