The grammar police

By Lynette Sowell

I am a cardcarrying member of the Grammar Police. I can’t help it. I don’t know when it first happened. Way back in school, I was one of those kids who knew how to spell, and somehow along the way I picked up how to use words correctly (for the most part). Somehow, most of the writing rules have lodged themselves in my brain. We members of the GP silently correct signs, advertisements, articles, even goofy Facebook photo captions. I try not to. Because there’s nothing quite so annoying as a know-itall. But like I said, I can’t help it. If you’re a card-carrying member of the GP also, I’m sure that now I’m a little more than 100 words into this post, you’ve probably corrected me.
