Approximately 80 kids from prekindergarten through eighth grade filled a gymnasium and a rehearsal room at Copperas Cove High School on Saturday morning, where they were put through their paces to learn a routine that they'll perform during the pregame at Friday night's home football game.

The Lil Rettes camp gives would-be dancers a taste of what it's like to work with a group and get the chance to dance with the Copperettes at Bulldawg Stadium.

Participants had lunch with the Copperettes and were able to pose for a picture in a Copperette hat, uniform overlay, and gold poms.

At the end of Saturday's clinic, the dancers were able to perform for their parents and famiiles.

The event, in addition to passing along the time-old tradition of the high school's dance team, also served as a fundraiser for the Copperettes to help offset their traveling costs for competition.

The dancers were divided into three groups, with prekindergarten through second grade in the dance rehearsal room, and the third through fifth and sixth through eighth graders in the larger gymnasium.

“We also have the S.C. Lee and Cove Junior High Starlettes practicing today,” Selby said, and the Copperettes are looking ahead to who'll be joining their ranks as freshmen next school year.
