Wind wreaks havoc in city

The wind in Copperas Cove Monday and Tuesday reached upwards of 35 miles per hour, causing fallen tree limbs, knocked-over fences and downed power lines, one of which snagged a Copperas Cove Independent School District bus early Tuesday. The downed power line at the intersection of West Avenue E and South 2nd Street caused a hold-up in a CCISD bus’ schedule at about 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. “The driver radioed me and said she had a wire wrapped around the hood mirror of the vehicle,” said CCISD transportation director Gary Elliott. “The line was already down because of the wind we had, so when the driver went around the corner the bus caught it.”
