RGIII pauses for fans

Former Bulldawgs quarterback Robert Griffin III autographs the bell that is rung after each Bulldawg touchdown following the street dedication ceremony Friday.

When the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner stepped out of his car on a street that bore his namesake, he was greeted with chants of “Robert” and “RGIII” as he paid visit to Copperas Cove for the first time since the summer months of 2012 to celebrate the dedication of Robert Griffin III Blvd.Running the length of the newly constructed 5 Hills plaza, Robert Griffin III Blvd was named after the 2008 graduate of Copperas Cove High School, 2011 Heisman winner and No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft. The street intersects with Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. on the eastern skirts of the city. “That’s the ultimate honor. If you’re going to have a street named after you, you want it to be a good street,” Griffin said. “It’s just an honor to be connected with Martin Luther King, a guy that didn’t just affect my life, but everybody’s life.”
