Gatesville Hornets sting Dawgs for 11-10 win
A seven-run fifth inning rally proved to be too little as the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs fell to the Gatesville Hornets 11-10 after seven innings of play on the road Tuesday night. Trailing 5-3 in top of the fifth inning, Jason Cole started things off for Copperas Cove reaching first on an error, followed by Brandon Smith who reached the same way. Kyle Winstead moved the runners around on a sixpitch plate appearance that netted a walk. Joel Hogan, Julian Doubleday, Sevonne Spinks and Ryan Dorroh would each reach base and score in the inning to take a 10-5 lead.
“We put the ball in play all night but never really squared it away until the fifth inning,” said Bulldawgs coach C.J. Wilk. “Hitting is very contagious and we were able to string some solid at bats together.”
