Dawgs search for first win since Feb. 23

Bulldawg senior Michael Sizemore attempts to put a tag on a Midway baserunner. Midway scored nine runs in the final two innings of play to run-rule the Dawgs 11-0.

Searching for their first win in nearly a month, the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs (3-14, 0-3) hosted the Midway Panthers (9-9, 3-0) in a District 8-5A matchup at Copperas Cove High School. Leading the Dawgs by a pair of runs at the end of the fourth inning, the Panthers scored nine runs over the next two innings to dash the hopes of a Bulldawg win run ruling them in the sixth inning of play, 11-0. Brandon Smith opened on the mound for the Dawgs, facing 28 batters in his five innings of work before being replaced by Josh Riffel and Sevonne Spinks. Smith allowed eight runs on five hits, walked three and struck out four in his outing as Riffel allowed three runs on two hits, while walking three and striking out one. Spinks faced two batters, hitting the first with a pitch, before striking out the second in his seven-pitch performance.
