Dawgs run game emerges in 41-14 victory at home
For head coach Jack Welch and his Copperas Cove Bulldawgs, two district losses are enough as they pounced on the Belton Tigers Friday evening 41-14 to improve to 2-2 in District 8-5A and 4-3 on the season. Opening with a 10-play drive, the Tigers moved the ball to their own 46-yard line before Breyon Jackson intercepted Shane Stafford. Jackson snagged a pair of turnovers on the night as he and the defensive unit kept Belton off the scoreboard through the first 18 minutes of action. Taking over near midfield, the Dawgs moved the ball to the end zone on three plays using 39 seconds off the clock when Shaq Fluelen found paydirt for his first of two scores on the night. Fluelen found the end zone on the Dawgs second drive of the game, capping an eight play 87-yard drive with a one-yard plunge giving the Dawgs a 12-0 lead after the initial scores field goal sailed wide left and a two-point conversion attempt failed.
