CCFD investigation continues into fire
A fire on Sunset Lane, fueled by high winds, claimed an abandoned 8-apartment complex on Monday and a neighboring building was evacuated. About a dozen neighbors and spectators stood behind yellow tape to watch the Copperas Cove Firefighters battle the blaze. Deputy Chief Gary Young with the Cove Fire Department said the fire was especially difficult to contain because the windows on the windward side of the building were blown out, therefore the wind blew into the building with the gusts, driving the fire. “The immediate threat was the heavy smoke conditions,” said Young. “But a large concern was whether we could contain the fire to where it started.
