Cove students raise money to fight and prevent crime

Pat Zangarine instills more than just desire in his students. He instills action.  angarine, retired from the military and began a second career as a teacher. He is theadviser of the Copperas Cove High School Criminal Justice Club which oversees the high school Crime Stoppers club and works hand in hand with the city’s organization. “It is important that local youth learn to support their community by building stronger relationships and forming a sense of safety and belonging,” Zangarine said. “One of the ways to accomplish this is through supporting local causes, like Crime Stoppers, which provide a safe and anonymous avenue to report criminal activity as well as paying individuals for credible information that leads to specific arrests or recoveries.” Students joined partnered with Copperas Cove Crime Stoppers, a volunteer organization overseen by the city police department, to raise money to help prevent and solve crimes in the community. More than $1,300 was raised by selling two tickets for $5 or five tickets for $10 for a custom-built wishing well. Crime Stoppers board  ember Faye Powell said the idea was developed through a committee discussion on fund raising. “The fundraiser was very successful and well supportedby citizens of Copperas Cove,” Powell said. “We will use the funds raised to continue pay out on Crime Stoppers tips and also for training for current members of our Crime Stoppers board.” A civilian board of directors manages the day-to-day operations of Crime Stoppers and offers rewards of up to $1,000 for information which leads to the arrest and indictment of persons charged with a felony. Powell said additional fundraisers are planned for August through September. The organization is heavily involved in National Night Out celebrated scheduled October 6 to bring neighbors and the community together to inform the public aboutvarious police and community  programs.The Copperas Cove Crime Stoppers is a program used to offer an alternative route for citizens to anonymously report information on a crime.
